social action
Invest your talents
Coordinated by the Social Action
Committee, outreach programs here focus on promoting improvements in
the larger community and do not require that participants subscribe
to a particular faith. UUs and non-UUs currently work together in a
number of outreach programs endorsed by groups within the church.
The purposes of the Social Action committee are:
-to study and address the causes of racism, sexism, and classism to the best of our abilities, by educating ourselves and others
-to work for the health and survival of the interdependent web of existence in collaboration with the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee
-to take seriously the Unitarian Universalist Association General Assembly resolutions, Actions of Immediate Witness and Study Action Issues
The Committee's primary activities have included:
Food drives
Voter Registratioon
Adult Ed Programs
Environmental clean up
Crop Walk
Earth day Special service
Provision of information on draft counselling, conscientious objection, and consequences of military recruiting in the schools
Support for and collaboration with those struggling for mariage equality, such as Love Makes a Family of CT
