Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport

Leadership

Minister

The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport does not currently have a full-time professional Minister. Sunday services are planned by the Worship Weavers Team comprised of members of the congregation dedicated to providing quality services every Sunday morning. The person(s) giving the sermon on a particular Sunday may be a Worship Weaver, another member of the congregation, an outside speaker from the community, or a guest professional minister from another congregation. These speakers are scheduled months ahead and a great deal of work goes into the preparation of each Sunday service.

Board of Trustees

Each Unitarian Universalist congregation is self-governed by an elected Board of Trustees. The Unitarian Universalist Church of Greater Bridgeport’s Board of Trustees has 8 members that includes four officers, President, Vice-President, Clerk, Treasurer, and four Trustees-at-Large. They are elected during the church annual meeting in June. Each member serves a two-year term.

Individuals currently on the Board of Trustees represent a cross-section of the congregation in age, years of membership, and leadership talents.

UUCGB’s Board of Trustees uses the democratic process in its deliberations and focuses on guiding the church toward realizing its vision and mission and planning for the future. Its primary activities include setting policies and procedures, articulating UUCGB’s goals and priorities, overseeing fiduciary responsibility, envisioning the strengthening and expansion of church programs, and undertaking systematic evaluation of the UUCGB’s ministries and its own performance.

Teams

In place of the committees through which most Unitarian Universalist congregations carry out much of the work of their churches, UUCGB has “teams”:  Worship Weavers; Faith Formation (Religious Education); Finance; Communications; Right Relations; Facilities; Membership; Community Outreach and Nominating.  Each year the teams are charged with specific goals by the Board of Trustees and Team Leaders are appointed by the Board.

Teams and the Board of Trustees provide many opportunities for UUCGB members to actively participate in the governance and life of the congregation.
